National Grid is hiring a Senior Trainer in the Henry Clay Blvd office. 

Job Purpose: To be responsible for the design, development and delivery of high quality, innovative, interactive learning solutions and programs.

Key Accountabilities

  • Coordination of verification activities associated with on and off job training as required, manage performance of internal trainers and external training providers, ensure availability of fit for purpose training facilities, and manage the interface with client departments.
  • Ensure that the proper support for the learning environment is in place, including joined up processes and systems covering planning interface, facilities, tools and equipment.
  • Contribute to the development of competency and authorization frameworks linked to technical operational skills capabilities.
  • Seek continuous improvement via appropriate means of monitoring, observation and evaluation of the effectiveness of delivered solutions.
  • Support the design and development of cohesive and innovative curriculum and training programs in order to meet client learning requests.
  • Conduct assessments of training needs associated with the introduction of new equipment, procedures and technology to ensure that National Grid incorporates best practice into learning methods and programs.
  • Define, create and deliver training programs such as preparing lesson plans and developing instructor materials and assessments in order to meet the learning and development needs of the business.


  • A Bachelor's degree in Electric Engineering from an ABET accredited engineering school
  • At least 10 years of experience as an engineer at a US utility
  • Highly skilled within their technical field. Extensive and significant knowledge of one technical field or broad technical depth in multiple, related fields
  • Experience as a trainer, education in a relevant field of education or training, and/or teaching certification desirable 
  • Work collaboratively with stakeholders including Substation Engineering, Protection Engineering, Transmission Planning and Asset Management, Regulatory, Transmission Line Engineering, Transmission Commercial Services, Human Resources and other functions within the Transmission Business.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and or direct development of course content including appropriate assessments necessary for training courses.
  • Demonstrated ability in instructor led delivery of wide range of training materials to small and large diverse audiences. 
  • Effective communication skills - verbal/written and presentation – capable of tailoring communications to meet stakeholder\customer needs
  • Demonstrates the ability to build an informed, independent opinion of training needs, problems and/or opportunities and develop appropriate solutions.
  • Broad knowledge of relevant industry practices, standards and legislation

  • Strong analytical skills; must be able to provide timely and accurate interpretation of analyses
  • Ability to effectively communicate, orally and in writing, in a concise, clear, and engaging manner - Ability to work independently, handle multiple tasks and determine priorities in a complex environment
  • Ability to build relationships both internally and externally at all levels
