Job Description:


3M is seeking a Senior Applications Engineer/Technician-Electrical Products Focus for Electrical Markets Division (EMD) Laboratory located in Austin, TX. At 3M, you can apply your talent in bold ways that matter.  Here, you go.


Job Summary:

The person hired for the position of Senior Applications Engineer/Technician-Electrical Products Focus will primarily be responsible for providing project management and technical guidance for the integration of 3M’s electrical markets products into the construction industry

Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Lead the customer interface interactions to discover stakeholders’ electrical requirements, timing and deliver solutions.
  • Plan, document and coordinate testing to ensure product kits meet customers’ and industry requirements.
  • Support the execution and management of project plans in concert with the customer expectations to ensure timely delivery of custom electrical kits and qualified products.
  • Utilizing experience in the electrical construction business to develop and execute custom kits from construction electrical material take-off.
  • Collaborate closely with sales personnel from our Construction and Industrial groups to evaluate projects for suitability to customized work packages.
  • Develop Bills of Materials for new custom kits and work with relevant disciplines to provide all relevant documents to accompany each kit.
  • Validate kit contents, match with electrical material take-off and data to support.
  • Communicate technical aspects of kit and application with customers in writing,  verbally and infield trainings.


Basic Qualifications:

  • Possess a High School diploma or higher (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution
  • Minimum five (5) years of combined experience in industrial electrical project experience in a private, public, government or military environment


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Technical diploma or higher in Electrical Engineering, Physical Sciences or related discipline from an accredited institution
  • Minimum seven (7) years of combined experience working as a Field Engineer, Design Engineer, Estimator, Project Manager and/or Superintendent with experience working large capital projects
  • Knowledge of simulation and modeling tools used in the electrical construction industry.
  • Knowledge of medium voltage cable, splices and terminations
  • Familiarity with integrated systems which may include hardware/firmware/software/ communications protocols
  • Understanding of electrical specifications, electrical drawings, equipment drawings and other pertinent project documentation, including the project database from which cable schedules, etc., are derived
  • Understanding of the different types of equipment typically encountered, including switchgear, transformers, and motors; and the variety of ways in which these equipment types are connected in the field
  • Computer skills including EXCEL and familiarity with CAD, ACCESS and other file types used in construction drawings
  • Must have fluency with all typical Industrial Project documentation, include specifications, one-line drawings, detail drawings, shop drawings, and project database
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated success working on cross-functional teams


Location: Austin, TX

Travel: May include up to 25% domestic
