What does a Technical Skills Trainer do for us? They are responsible for providing hands-on training in a field and classroom environment for Lineman Apprentices, Journeyman, and other job classifications within Idaho Power. Skills trainers presents training courses covering safe and proper methods of installation, repair, and maintenance of equipment and facilities in overhead/underground transmission and distribution systems or substations.

Pay for this non-exempt position ranges from $38.70 - $46.61.
REQUIRED SKILLS
Knowledge of:
State and federal construction rules, regulations, and laws pertaining to substation or lines construction, inspection, design, and maintenance methods, equipment, vehicles, and tools
Presentation techniques and adult learning methods and Idaho Power Company safety program
Prefer:
Training disciplines, company, and industry
Idaho Power Safety rules and procedures
Skills in:
The use of personal computers and the MS Office suite of products
Basic arithmetic calculations
Effective coordination with several departments and personnel effectively
Expressing oneself verbally in a teaching environment
Meeting deadlines
Working on ladders
Operating heavy equipment, personal protective equipment, two- and four-wheel drive vehicles, and all-terrain vehicles
Performing vehicle inspections and be responsible for scheduled maintenance
Being familiar with training development methodologies
Prefer:
1-3 years on-call troubleshooting experience at IPC and/or Completed First Responder training
Knowledge of planning and organizing/coordination
Customer focus, presentation development and delivery
Process analysis/improvementand technical system skills
Ability to:
Communicate effectively
Use independent discretion, good judgment and initiative
Demonstrate follow-through on customer inquiries regarding training programs, policies, and processes
Recognize complex matters that require additional guidance and escalates as necessary
Influence students
Assist in development of training plans and program materials in response to new or revised regulatory requirements or a change in operating procedures or job requirements
Have familiarity with instructional design methods, write/develop lesson plans, course summaries, objectives, training aids, assessments/test, and evaluation tools
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education:
High school diploma or GED.
Experience:
5 to 7 years recent work experience as a Journeyman Lineman including experience in power outage
Prefer:
Troubleshooting or on-call emergency response or 8 to 10 years work experience as a Journeyman Lineman
Licenses & Certifications:
Valid Class A CDL driver’s license with acceptable driving record based on driving requirements for the position
Valid DOT (Department of Transportation) Medical Card or ability to obtain prior to hire
Prefer:
ATV certification
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This position consists of training apprentice and journeyman lineworkers. This requires lifting/carrying a bag of gear (50 lbs) for 100-200 feet, lifting a training mannequin (115 lbs), using mechanical and hand tools to dig holes (11 feet deep) to set poles, climbing poles to perform repairs and installations, pulling wire (up to 80 lbs), twisting at the trunk, and using a hotstick/shotgun (up to 40 feet extended, up to 25 lbs for up to 30 minute intervals). This position also requires performing some classroom instruction and keeping up to date with safety regulations. Emergency lineman rescue certification is required. Job placement is contingent upon successful completion of the Department of Transportation (DOT) medical certificate exam. The above is a summary of the primary essential functions of the position. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
80% of time will be allocated to delivery of training; 20% of time will be allocated to administrative duties, e.g., training content review/revisions, field visits in support of safety initiatives, etc.
Work schedule will align with the business needs of the Apprentice Programs and ongoing Journeymen and other skilled craft employee training.
Will require some travel within the Idaho Power Company service area with occasional overnight stays. Occasionally perform duties outside normal working hours.
